ABERDEEN | Matea Gordon, a junior at Sturgis Brown High University, was named the over-all winner of South Dakota’s 2020 Big Notion competitors, the firm announced last week.
Gordon’s venture, “Goats-2-Go: Delivering a Goat Load of Entertaining,” a goat rental organization for remedy and entertainment, took the 1st put award Dec. 9. Gordon gained a $1,000 funds prize, a $2,000 scholarship to Northern Point out College in Aberdeen, a $2,000 scholarship to Presentation Faculty in Aberdeen and a $2,500 scholarship to South Dakota College of Mines and Technological innovation in Swift City.
Kelly Weaver, regional director with the South Dakota Small Business enterprise Improvement Centre, claimed the Big Thought levels of competition is a high school method that aims to advertise entrepreneurship, spur resourceful wondering and stimulate students to get started a business enterprise.
The competitiveness was released in 2007 through a collaborative effort of quite a few companies in South Dakota. Weaver mentioned the Large Concept competitors was established to promote homegrown firms in the point out and to inspire students to remain in South Dakota, rather than leave the location for other work opportunities.
This year’s competition received 245 entries from 339 college students at 29 schools. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Massive Notion levels of competition was held in a digital setting, Weaver explained. Eight finalists offered their assignments to judges by way of Zoom and were awarded far more than $30,000 in income and scholarships.
